Privacy Policy

Fieldnotes is built by people who hate being tracked online. We designed the app to work offline precisely because we don't want to know what you're doing. Here's the full picture.

What we collect

  • Nationality and travel preferences — stored locally on your device to personalize your guides. Never sent to our servers unless you submit a tip or feedback.
  • Anonymous analytics events — things like “card opened” or “feedback submitted.” No personal identifiers. We use this to improve the content.
  • Community tips — if you submit a tip, we store the tip text, your nationality (for Verified Local badges), and a device identifier. No name, no email.
  • Referral codes — if you use or share a referral code, we track code usage to prevent abuse. No personal data is linked.

What we don't collect

  • Your name, email, or phone number (we never ask for it)
  • Your location (the app has no GPS permissions)
  • Your contacts, photos, or browsing history
  • Any data from Apple Health, HealthKit, or any other sensitive framework

Third-party services

We use Supabase (hosted in the EU) for anonymous analytics and community tips. We use Apple StoreKit 2 for in-app purchases — Apple handles all payment data directly. We use Frankfurter API and Open Exchange Rates for currency data — no user data is sent, only currency pair requests.

Affiliate links

Some recommendations in the app include affiliate links to services like Airalo, Wise, and Uber. If you tap one, the partner's website may set its own cookies. We earn a small commission if you purchase — this is how we fund ongoing content updates. We never share your data with affiliate partners.

Data retention

All guide content is stored locally on your device. Community tips are stored on our servers indefinitely (or until you request deletion). Analytics events are retained for 12 months, then automatically purged.

Your rights

You can delete the app at any time to remove all local data. To request deletion of any community tips you've submitted, email binklfoot16@gmail.com and we'll handle it within 48 hours.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and note the date above. We'll never retroactively collect more data without your consent.
